[Photos] As battle for Mosul rages on, tens of thousands become displaced in last few days

More than a month after the start of the Mosul offensive, 80,000 civilians have found themselves displaced as a result of the fighting between Iraqi forces and the Islamic State (ISIS).

Attempts to wrestle control of Iraq’s second largest city from ISIS militants has seen an upsurge in displacement in recent days as Iraqi forces progress further towards urban areas of the city. The United Nations reports that 60,000 of the displaced have become internally displaced persons (IDPs) within the last two weeks alone.

At risk from direct and indirect fire, unexploded ordnance, and attacks by ISIS militants who may look to retaliate against civilians as they continue to lose ground, thousands of civilians continue to flee every day.
