QAMISHLO — Five members of Kurdish security forces (Asayish) were killed and a number wounded on Saturday (April 30) after a suicide bomber struck in Qamishlo.
NRT correspondent Nubar Ismael said the suicide bomber targeted members of Asayish near al-Tay district in the south of Qamishlo.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack at this time.
Syrian-Kurdish and government forces announced a ceasefire in Qamishlo on April 23, days after clashes broke out between the two sides in the usually restive town.
The general command of Asayish issued a statement saying a ceasefire had gone into effect the previous day.
Fighting between forces erupted in Qamishlo on April 19 after, what the security agency said was regime forces’ interference in the mainly-Kurdish town’s affairs.
At least 17 civilians were killed as a result of Syrian army shelling in Kurdish neighborhoods, the Asayish said.
Seven members of the Asayish and three members of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) were also killed.
