SULAIMANI — At least 100 workers were wounded after a chlorine gas cylinder exploded at a steel and iron production factory in the district of Bazian, about 28 km west of Sulaimani.

The head of the district administration, Fazil Omar, told NRT the workers, including Kurdish, Arab and Indian nationals, were wounded due to inhaling toxic chlorine gas released after the gas cylinder explosion at Sulaimani Steel Factory.

About 150 workers, some with serious wounds, were transferred to nearby hospitals to receive treatment, said Saman Nadir, the head of Sulaimani Emergency Hospital.

Associated teams launched an investigation to find out the reason behind the blast and the type of toxic chlorine gas.
