TEHRAN — At least seven people were killed and dozens injured in two separate terror attacks in Tehran, at Iran’s Parliament and the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini, on Wednesday morning (June 7).

At least five people were killed and about 25 injured after four armed men attacked security guards in front of Iran’s Parliament shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The gunmen shot at security outside the parliament building, killing at least two guards and three other people, Fars News Agency reported.

All four of the assailants are now dead, Mehr News Agency reported, and two of the attackers blew themselves up with suicide vests. The agency said the security operation lasted five hours and one of the suicide bombers detonated on the fourth floor of the parliament building.

All members of parliament have left the building without injury, according to Fars News.

Iranian lawmaker Elias Hazrati said three gunmen, one with a pistol and two with AK-47 assault rifles, attacked the parliament, a state television website reported.

Tasnim News Agency earlier reported there were unconfirmed reports that the assailants had taken four hostages inside the parliament building.

At least two people were killed and ten wounded in a similar attack at the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran on Wednesday, Fars News said. Three attackers shot ten rounds at visitors to the shrine and one assailant blew herself up in front of a police station near the shrine, the agency reported.

One assailant was killed in clashes with police, another committed suicide with a cyanide capsule and a third female attacker was captured, according to Fars News.

The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the attacks on its Amaq News Agency.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini launched the Islamic revolution in 1979.
